Introductory Summer School in Astronomy and Astrophysics – IUCAA

IUCAAThe Inter-University Centre for Astronomy and Astrophysics (IUCAA) is an autonomous institution set up by the University Grants Commission to promote nucleation and growth of active groups in astronomy and astrophysics in Indian universities. IUCAA is located in the University of Pune campus next to the National Centre for Radio Astrophysics, which operates the Giant Metrewave Radio Telescope.

And it is now inviting applications for its Introductory Summer School in Astronomy and Astrophysics.

The summer school for students will be held for five weeks during May-June of every even-numbered year. It is designed to introduce students to the exciting fields of astronomy and astrophysics (A+A). No previous knowledge of Astronomy and Astrophysics is necessary, though familiarity with the basic principles of mathematics and physics is required.

The school will consist of lectures covering the fundamentals of A+A as well as recent developments in the field. In addition, participants may take part in individual projects under suitable guidance. The lecturers for the school will be drawn from the leading A+A centres in India. There is a possibility for a few motivated students to spend an additional week at IUCAA after the school.

Who can apply: Students completing 2nd year of BE/B.Tech/Integrated M.Sc or B.Sc or are eligible to apply.

Location: Inter-University Centre for Astronomy and Astrophysics (IUCAA), Pune

Duration: 1 month (May 16 – June 17, 2016)

Financials: The selected students will be provided with travel, boarding and lodging for the duration of the school.

The last date to apply this year is February 25, 2016.
