Visiting Students’ Research Program – National Centre for Radio Astrophysics (NCRA-TIFR), Pune

NCRA-TIFRThe National Centre for Radio Astrophysics of the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (NCRA-TIFR), Pune is a leading centre of research in a wide range of areas in Astronomy and Astrophysics. NCRA-TIFR offers exciting opportunities for research in Astronomy and Astrophysics, and instrumentation, with an emphasis on radio astronomy. NCRA-TIFR has built and operates the Giant Metrewave Radio Telescope, which is located near Pune, and is the most powerful radio telescope in the world at low radio frequencies.

The VSRP 2018 will consist of a research project on astronomy and astrophysics, either theoretical, observational or computational, depending on project availability and student preferences. Based on their performance in the research project, the project seminar and subsequent interviews, outstanding students will be offered research scholarships towards a PhD at NCRA, to be taken up on completion of the qualifying degree.

Who can apply: This Visiting Students’ Research Program is for students with an interest in Physics and Astronomy and those who will complete their BE/B.Tech degrees (in any stream) or 4 year B.Sc. or M.Sc. or Integrated M.Sc. degrees (in Physics, Astronomy, Applied Mathematics or Electronics) in 2019.

Location: National Centre for Radio Astrophysics (NCRA-TIFR), Pune.

Duration: 8 weeks (May 7-July 6, 2018).

Stipend: All students selected for the VSRP will be paid a stipend of Rs. 7000/- per month and will also be provided with accommodation on the NCRA-TIFR campus during the summer internship program. You will be also paid 1.33 times the second-class return railway fare between the place of your residence or education and Pune.

The last date to apply this year has been extended to February 17, 2018.
